Abstract

On January 27, Apple announced the eagerly anticipated iPad. Contrary to expectations, the Apple iPad does not focus on computing performance. Instead, the iPad adopts the touch interface of the iPhone and iPod Touch, is able to use the diverse applications available in the App Store, and adds e-book services. The product thereby fills a gap that existed between the Mac PC and iPhone/iPod Touch product lines. This report analyzes Apple's strategies for the iPad in cooperation with mobile operators, key applications of the iPad, and the product's component supply chain.
